Authorities are investigating an incident of vandalism at the Christmas display near the Central Park Christmas tree in Kaohsiung. Early Monday afternoon, unknown individuals spray-painted the number “666” on a holiday-themed Christmas house, damaging public property and affecting the city’s aesthetic.
The Xinxing Police Precinct has established a special task force to handle the case. Investigators are reviewing surveillance footage from Central Park and surrounding areas to identify the suspect(s).
Police emphasized that the case will be handled strictly in accordance with the law. Once apprehended, the perpetrator will face penalties under Article 90 of the Social Order Maintenance Act for graffiti and property damage. In addition, the offender will be responsible for covering all cleaning and restoration costs.
Under Kaohsiung City’s “Tree, Flower, and Public Facility Damage Compensation Ordinance,” Article 7, individuals found intentionally damaging public property may be fined between NT$3,000 and NT$80,000, in addition to any restitution required by the managing authority. Authorities reiterated their commitment to ensuring that acts of vandalism are thoroughly investigated and offenders held accountable.
