Kaohsiung City, Taiwan — January 29, 2026
A 26-year-old foreign national was taken into police custody after allegedly damaging property and causing a disturbance in a commercial area of Kaohsiung late Wednesday night.
The Kaohsiung City Xinxing Police Precinct reported that officers from the Zhongshan Road Police Station received a disturbance call at around 11:00 p.m. on January 28 involving a man causing trouble at a business establishment along Liuhe 2nd Road. Responding patrol officers arrived quickly at the scene.
Initial investigations indicated that the man became emotionally unstable after consuming alcohol and damaged a chair belonging to a local vendor. When the shop owner requested compensation for the damage, the man refused and fled toward Zhongshan 1st Road. During his escape, he stumbled and fell, after which a shop owner surnamed Kuo restrained him until police arrived.
Police said the suspect sustained only minor abrasions to his palm from the fall and declined medical treatment. As the affected shop owner later decided not to file a formal complaint, officers placed the man under temporary protective custody. After he sobered up and his emotional state stabilized, police contacted his friend, who escorted him home.
The Xinxing Police Precinct urged the public to drink responsibly and maintain self-control to prevent disputes or unlawful behavior. Authorities reiterated that any actions disrupting public order will be dealt with strictly in accordance with the law to protect public safety and maintain social stability.
