Pingtung County, Taiwan — December 17, 2025

A 52-year-old woman has been arrested for allegedly stealing over NT$5,000 in cash from a motorbike parked outside a self-service laundromat in Changzhi Township, Pingtung County, police said Tuesday.

The Changzhi Precinct of Pingtung Police reported that a female victim filed a complaint on December 11 after discovering that money stored in her motorbike’s storage compartment had been stolen. Police immediately reviewed surveillance footage from the laundromat and surrounding areas, which clearly captured the theft in progress.

The footage showed a woman dressed in shorts and boots, with a fashionable appearance, taking advantage of the victim’s brief absence inside the laundromat. The suspect opened the unlocked storage compartment, removed a bag, retrieved a wallet, took out the cash, and placed it in her pocket before returning the bag to the compartment—all captured on camera.

Following further investigation, police identified the suspect as a 52-year-old woman surnamed Wang. She was apprehended on December 15 and has been formally referred to the Pingtung District Prosecutors Office for prosecution on theft charges.

The Pingtung Police Bureau emphasized the importance of securing motorbikes and advised the public not to leave valuables in storage compartments to reduce the risk of theft. Authorities also stated that they will continue to strengthen patrols during high-risk hours and utilize technological surveillance to prevent similar crimes.
