Kaohsiung City, Taiwan — November 6, 2025
A 40-year-old man surnamed Jiang was arrested after stealing three gold necklaces valued at around NT$500,000 from a jewelry shop in Xinxing District, Kaohsiung. Jiang had entered the store pretending to sell gold jewelry but seized the opportunity to commit theft before fleeing on foot.

The store owner immediately gave chase while shouting for help, drawing the attention of police officer Zhang Shaohua, who happened to be patrolling nearby. Officer Zhang quickly responded, chased down the suspect, and successfully subdued him. The stolen items were recovered on the spot.

According to authorities, Jiang was recently released on parole but has since returned to criminal activity. Investigators suspect his involvement in a series of thefts and robberies that occurred in October. The prosecutor’s request for his detention was approved following his latest arrest.

Police records reveal that Jiang has a long history of criminal behavior. In 2008, he and his brother orchestrated staged car accidents across Kaohsiung, Tainan, and Pingtung, committing multiple crimes including kidnapping and robbery. Jiang was sentenced to life imprisonment, while his brother received a 29-year sentence.

Since Jiang violated his parole by reoffending, he will have his parole revoked and will return to prison to serve the remainder of his original sentence. He has been turned over to the Kaohsiung District Prosecutors Office for further investigation on charges of theft and fraud.
