A 37-year-old delivery driver in Taichung, surnamed Liang, was fined after police discovered a sticker partially covering his motorcycle’s license plate while he was riding through Beitun District earlier this week.
The incident occurred around 2:40 p.m. near the intersection of Chongde Road Section 3 and Songzhu Road Section 2, not far from the Siping Police Station of the Fifth Precinct. Officers Zhao Boxiu and He Sixian, who were preparing for duty, noticed that Liang’s motorcycle plate was obscured by a reflective sticker reading, “No robbery, but no cooperation in rape.”
Officers pulled Liang over and explained that the sticker violated traffic regulations by obstructing the readability of the license plate. Initially confused, Liang later told police that the motorcycle belonged to a family member and he was unaware of the sticker’s presence.
Police cited him under Article 13, Paragraph 1 of the Road Traffic Management Penalty Regulations, which stipulates fines between NT$2,400 and NT$4,800 for tampering with or obstructing license plates.
Fifth Precinct Director Liu Qixian reminded motorists that license plates must remain clear and legible at all times. He noted that while dirty or unclear plates can result in fines ranging from NT$300 to NT$600, the use of stickers, covers, or any other objects that prevent proper identification carries much steeper penalties.
Authorities urged drivers to check their vehicles regularly to avoid unnecessary fines and ensure compliance with traffic safety regulations.
