Commission on Elections (Comelec) Chairman George Erwin Garcia has emphasized the need for the Anti-Political Dynasty Bill to be drafted in a clear, precise, and easily enforceable manner. Speaking on Bombo Radyo, Garcia stressed that the law should leave little room for interpretation to prevent confusion and ensure consistent implementation.
Garcia also urged Congress to expedite the passage of the measure to allow sufficient time for preparations for the 2028 elections. He noted that only one year and six months remain before the filing of Certificates of Candidacy, making timely enactment critical for voter education and implementation.
The Comelec chief highlighted potential issues if the bill is poorly drafted, including conflicts in penalties such as disqualification or cancellation of candidacy, as well as loopholes that could be exploited.
“Our goal is to make the law clear and specific so that it can be properly implemented, ensuring fair elections and avoiding complications in the upcoming electoral process,” Garcia said.
He reiterated that the law’s clarity and precision would be essential for upholding electoral integrity and preventing disputes that could undermine public trust.
