Taipei, Taiwan – April 26, 2026 — Authorities have announced strengthened security measures at Taipei Main Station following a shocking assault on a 3-year-old Filipino girl that sparked widespread public outrage.

The incident occurred yesterday afternoon inside the main hall of Taipei Main Station, where a 40-year-old man surnamed Li allegedly kicked and stomped on the child in front of commuters. The suspect was swiftly arrested by officers from the Railway Police Bureau and is now under investigation for assault charges.

In response, railway police announced three major safety enhancement measures aimed at preventing similar incidents and reducing the risk of copycat behavior.

First, authorities will increase fixed patrol presence throughout the station. Police will strengthen watchpoints at key areas, including the ground-floor concourse, B1 metro connection, B2 platforms, and B3 transfer corridors, conducting at least three scheduled patrols every two hours.

Second, a joint inspection and monitoring team composed of police officers, station staff, and private security guards will conduct daily patrols. The team will focus on identifying abnormal behavior and carrying out preventive intervention.

Officials said they will also implement regular public safety checks at five designated time periods—7 a.m., 9 a.m., 1 p.m., 5 p.m., and 9 p.m.—to approach, warn, or remove individuals exhibiting disruptive or suspicious behavior within the station.

Lastly, railway police emphasized the continued integration of manpower resources, including Taiwan Railways staff, security personnel, and on-duty officers, to improve communication and rapid response capability. All parties will coordinate closely to ensure immediate action in case of emergencies.

Authorities stressed that safeguarding public safety in busy transport hubs like Taipei Main Station requires combined efforts and strict enforcement, especially after incidents that have raised concerns about passenger security.
