Taipei, Taiwan — April 11, 2026 — A 23-year-old man tragically lost his life after being run over by a light truck while lying on a road in Taipei’s Nangang District on Saturday afternoon.

According to the Nangang Precinct, the victim, identified as a man surnamed Jian, was found lying in the middle of Songhe Street for reasons that remain unclear. At around 3:00 p.m., a 47-year-old driver surnamed You was traveling westbound when his vehicle passed beneath Chenggong Bridge, an area reportedly dimly lit due to the structure above.

Police said the driver may not have noticed the man lying on the roadway in time, resulting in the truck running over the victim. Emergency responders arrived at the scene and found Jian with severe injuries and no signs of life. He was rushed to a nearby hospital but was later pronounced dead.

Authorities confirmed that the driver tested negative for alcohol, ruling out drunk driving as a factor in the incident.

The case has been referred to the Shilin District Prosecutors Office on suspicion of negligent homicide. Investigators are currently reviewing nearby surveillance footage to determine why the victim was lying on the road prior to the حادث.

Police have cordoned off the area to gather evidence, and traffic investigators will conduct further analysis to establish the exact cause of the accident and responsibility.

Officials also reminded motorists to exercise extra caution when driving through dimly lit areas such as underpasses and bridges, urging drivers to slow down and remain alert to avoid similar tragedies.
