Changhua, Taiwan — April 11, 2026 — A massage therapist in Changhua County has been sentenced to six months in prison, with the option to pay a fine in lieu of serving the term, after being found guilty of sexually assaulting a client during a massage session. The ruling was handed down by the Changhua District Court.

According to court documents, the incident took place on September 15 last year in Yuanlin City, where the therapist operated a massage studio. During a full-body massage, the male client reportedly fell asleep due to fatigue. While the client was unconscious and in a vulnerable state, the therapist took advantage of the situation and committed inappropriate acts involving the client’s private area for several minutes.

The victim later woke up after sensing unusual stimulation and immediately realized what was happening. Shocked and angered, he reported the incident to authorities on the spot.

During the trial, the therapist admitted to performing the massage but denied any sexual misconduct. He claimed that his actions were part of applying massage oil and that the client had requested additional focus on the thigh area, which led to incidental contact. He also argued that the client did not resist during the session.

However, the court found the explanation unconvincing. The judge noted that the client only became aware of the situation upon waking and reacted with anger, indicating a lack of consent. The court concluded that the act constituted opportunistic sexual assault.

In its decision, the court considered that the therapist later admitted to the offense during proceedings and reached a settlement with the victim, which has already been fulfilled. Taking these factors into account, the court issued a six-month prison sentence, suspended for two years. The defendant is also required to attend two legal education sessions and will be placed under probation during the suspension period.

The case remains subject to appeal.
