Changhua, Taiwan — March 22, 2026

A shocking incident in Pitou Township, Changhua County, has left a 76-year-old woman severely injured after being attacked by three large dogs while working in her farmland. The elderly victim, surnamed Lin, suffered over 200 bite and tear wounds across her back, legs, and other parts of her body, and was hospitalized due to the severity of her injuries.

Authorities suspect the dogs belong to a nearby poultry farm and are normally allowed to roam freely without leashes. After the attack, the dogs reportedly disappeared, possibly hidden by someone, sparking fear among local residents and calls for the Changhua County government to take immediate action.

Elderly Woman Attacked While Working in Field

The attack occurred around noon on March 11, when Lin was tending to her crops. Surveillance footage shows the three dogs ambushing her from behind. Despite her efforts to fend them off, Lin sustained multiple deep lacerations on her hands, legs, and buttocks. Her clothes were torn, leaving parts of her body exposed, and she had to painfully drag her bicycle home while bleeding, with one of the dogs reportedly lingering nearby.

Severe Injuries and Hospitalization

Lin’s family said she was rushed to the hospital, where doctors treated over 200 bite wounds contaminated with mud and dirt. Even after cleaning and suturing, some wounds became infected, requiring prolonged medical care.

The family also revealed that the previous day, a local young man had been chased by the same dogs, suggesting a pattern of aggressive behavior. They criticized the dog owner for failing to manage the animals responsibly, and the authorities for inadequate handling of stray and free-roaming dogs, which puts farmers and residents at constant risk.

Suspected Dogs Belong to Poultry Farm

Changhua County Councilor Wu Jin-tan stated that locals reported the three dogs likely belong to a nearby poultry farm, where they roam freely and have even chased motorcyclists late at night. Following the attack, the dogs were reportedly taken away and hidden.

Police from the Beidou Precinct confirmed that the dogs appear to belong to the poultry farm and usually follow the instructions of the farm owner. At present, the dogs have not been seen at the farm.

Legal Action and Investigation Underway

Lin’s family has filed a criminal complaint for negligent injury. Additionally, the motorcyclist who was chased by the dogs is expected to file a report soon. Police plan to summon the poultry farm owner on March 23 to provide a statement. Animal control authorities will also inspect the living conditions of the dogs. If confirmed as the farm’s animals, the owner could face criminal charges for negligent injury as well as civil liability for damages.
