November 24, 2025 | Manila, Philippines — The Department of Health (DOH) has renewed its call for a total ban on vaping products in the Philippines, citing new scientific findings that show vaping is not a safer alternative to traditional cigarettes.
Health Secretary Ted Herbosa emphasized that recent studies reveal vaping may pose even greater health risks due to harmful chemicals found in e-cigarettes.
“Some believe that vaping is safer than cigarette smoking, but current scientific research shows it can actually be more dangerous. Vape products contain numerous chemicals that cause various harmful effects on the body, including E-cigarette and Vape-Associated Lung Injury (EVALI),” Herbosa said.
The health chief also criticized the vape industry for marketing strategies that appear to target the youth, using attractive packaging and sweet, enticing flavors.
Herbosa noted that the growing number of young people becoming addicted to vape products has become a serious public health concern, pushing the DOH to intensify its recommendation for a total ban.
The department is urging lawmakers and government agencies to review existing regulations to ensure stricter control and stronger protection for the public, especially minors.
The DOH continues to strengthen its anti-vaping and anti-smoking campaigns, reiterating the need to prioritize the health and safety of Filipinos amid mounting evidence of the dangers posed by vaping.
