Hsinchu, Taiwan (November 21, 2025)– Former Hsinchu County Labor Bureau Director Liu Chia-man and former Deputy Director Lin Tung-shan have been convicted of corruption, prompting the county government to announce that it will convene a performance review committee to examine their administrative responsibilities. If serious misconduct is confirmed, the case will be referred to the Control Yuan for further review under the Civil Servant Disciplinary Act.

According to the county government, Liu and Lin were released on bail and reinstated as senior secretaries after being indicted and transferred for trial. During their tenure in the Labor Department, they were found guilty of failing to comply with integrity and ethics registration requirements. The county government emphasized that the upcoming performance review will carefully consider the judgment’s findings to determine potential administrative violations.

Liu and Lin were previously detained by the court—Liu on March 6 and Lin on February 4 of this year—and were suspended from their duties until September 10, when the court ordered their release on bail. Following the resolution of their suspension, both officials applied for reinstatement on September 15, and their positions were adjusted to senior secretaries on September 16.

Liu Chia-man later submitted a voluntary retirement application on September 22. Having served 36 years in civil service, he met the conditions stipulated under the Civil Service Retirement, Severance, and Compensation Act. After review by the county government, his retirement application was approved to take effect on November 2, with protection of his retirement rights emphasized.

The county government also noted that under Article 79 of the Retirement Act, if a civil servant is convicted of corruption, dereliction of duty, or abuse of official power after retirement, their retirement pension may be reduced or revoked. Should future court rulings affect Liu or Lin’s retirement benefits, the county government stated that the matter will be handled in accordance with the law.
