The Philippine National Police (PNP) announced on Friday that its officers are prepared to enforce arrest warrants against individuals implicated in the ongoing flood control scandal, once the proper courts issue the necessary documents.

During a command conference last Wednesday, the PNP met with the Independent Commission on Infrastructure (ICI) and other government agencies to coordinate strategies for investigating allegedly anomalous infrastructure projects.

Acting PNP Chief Lt. Gen. Jose Melencio Nartatez Jr. emphasized that police personnel are ready to act immediately once the cases are formally filed and warrants are issued, in line with the government’s commitment to swift justice.

“Once cases have been formally filed against subject individuals and arrest warrants are issued by the proper courts, police officers are ready to enforce them immediately,” the PNP said in a statement.

The announcement follows President Ferdinand Marcos Jr.’s vow that those involved in the scandal will face imprisonment before the end of the year.

The PNP has clarified that its role in the investigation is mainly to provide technical assistance, including engineering verification, forensic validation, and information systems support.

“We will extend all necessary assistance to inspect and validate all questionable infrastructure projects and ensure airtight cases against those involved,” Nartatez added.

According to Public Works and Highways Secretary Vince Dizon, at least 40 individuals are expected to be among the first batch of personalities held accountable over the alleged irregularities in flood control projects.

Authorities reiterated that they are fully committed to supporting investigations and ensuring that all implicated parties are properly prosecuted.
