Changhua County, Taiwan — November 12, 2025

Authorities in Changhua County have launched strict control and safety measures following the discovery of fipronil contamination in eggs from Wenya Livestock Farm. The contamination was confirmed after laboratory tests detected trace amounts of the banned pesticide in both egg and feather samples from the farm.

According to the Changhua County Animal Disease Control Center, samples were collected on November 10 and 11 for testing, including eggs, feed, soil, feathers, chicken organs, and water sources. The Central Livestock Council’s analysis revealed that one egg sample contained 0.03 ppm of fipronil metabolites, while one feather sample tested positive for 0.27 ppm of fipronil and 0.13 ppm of its metabolites. All other samples returned negative results.

In response, the Changhua County Government has immediately implemented comprehensive control measures to safeguard public health and prevent the spread of contamination.

Emergency Measures Enforced

  1. Movement Ban:
The Wenya Livestock Farm is now under strict movement control. A formal prohibition notice was issued, barring the transfer of eggs and chickens outside the premises. Daily inspections will be conducted to count and seal the eggs to prevent distribution.

  2. Administrative Penalty:
As the contamination was confirmed, the county’s Animal Disease Control Center will impose a fine of NT$120,000 under the Animal Drugs Management Act for the illegal use of fipronil.

  3. Ongoing Testing and Monitoring:
The farm will remain under close observation, with continuous sampling and testing of chickens and eggs until the products are verified safe. Only after official clearance from central authorities will the control order be lifted.

  4. Coordination with Central Agencies:
The county government is maintaining close coordination with the central health and agricultural departments to ensure full compliance with national food safety protocols.

Public Advisory

Officials reminded poultry farmers that fipronil is strictly banned for use in laying hens. Violators face fines between NT$60,000 and NT$300,000, as stipulated under Article 40-1 of the Animal Drug Administration Act. The government urged all livestock operators to adhere to approved veterinary drug regulations and avoid unverified chemical substances to maintain food safety and consumer trust.

The Changhua County Government assured the public that all contaminated products have been sealed and that continuous monitoring will remain in effect until the risk is fully eliminated.
