King Charles III and Queen Camilla of the United Kingdom have extended their heartfelt condolences and support to the people of the Philippines following the recent series of typhoons and earthquakes that brought widespread devastation across the country.
In a statement shared by the British Embassy in Manila on Tuesday, the monarch expressed that he and Queen Camilla were “deeply concerned” about the destruction caused by the severe weather events and flooding. They also conveyed their sorrow over the loss of lives resulting from these calamities.
“We were profoundly saddened to hear of further loss of life,” King Charles said, adding that their thoughts are with the families who lost loved ones and those who continue to face immense hardship.
The King also expressed concern for communities affected by the earthquakes that struck Cebu and Davao Oriental in October, noting the compounded impact of multiple disasters.
“I am well aware that the suffering has been compounded by the devastating effects of two earthquakes in October, and our hearts go out to all those who are so cruelly affected by these catastrophic natural disasters,” his message read.
King Charles also paid tribute to first responders who have endured losses while assisting in rescue and relief operations. “We particularly want to convey our deepest and most heartfelt sympathy to the families of all those who have lost their loved ones, and to pay a special tribute to the emergency services who have suffered their own tragic losses as they have assisted in the rescue efforts,” he added.
British Ambassador to the Philippines Sarah Hulton earlier announced through X (formerly Twitter) that the United Kingdom is helping provide assistance to victims of Typhoons Uwan and Tino. The support, she said, includes prepositioned funding through the United Nations Central Emergency Response Fund (UNCERF) and emergency relief efforts via the Start Network.
The United Kingdom joins other nations—including Canada, the United States, Australia, Ireland, the United Arab Emirates, and the European Union—in expressing sympathy and solidarity with Filipinos affected by the recent natural disasters.
