Former Senate President Juan Ponce Enrile has been confined to the intensive care unit (ICU) of an undisclosed hospital after reportedly suffering from pneumonia, according to Senator Jinggoy Estrada.
During Tuesday’s Senate plenary session, Estrada disclosed the news, saying he received information from a credible source regarding Enrile’s current health condition.
“I heard from a reliable source, a very, very reliable source, that he has slim chances of surviving,” Estrada stated on the Senate floor.
As of this writing, no official statement has been released by Enrile’s family or representatives regarding his medical status or hospital location.
Enrile, who is 101 years old, is one of the country’s most prominent political figures, having served in various government positions including as Senate President, Defense Minister, and Justice Secretary. He is currently the Chief Presidential Legal Counsel under the Marcos Jr. administration.
Further updates are expected as more information becomes available regarding his condition.
