Taipei, Taiwan (November 8, 2025) – The Central Weather Bureau (CWB) has issued a weather advisory indicating that northern and northeastern Taiwan will experience a drop in temperatures starting tomorrow afternoon, November 9, due to the strengthening of the northeast monsoon. Localized brief showers are forecasted in windward areas, including Keelung, the northern coast, and Greater Taipei.

Meteorologist Chang Chun-yao stated that while the morning weather is expected to remain generally clear, the northeast monsoon will intensify in the afternoon, bringing changes to windward regions. Beginning Monday, November 10, the outer circulation of Typhoon Fung-wong, combined with the northeast monsoon, is expected to cause showers in Keelung, Greater Taipei, eastern Taiwan, and the Hengchun Peninsula. Certain areas may experience heavy rainfall or localized torrential downpours, particularly in the northeastern region, Greater Taipei, and the eastern mountainous areas.

Chang emphasized that residents in the north, Yilan, and Hualien should remain on high alert for heavy rain early next week. Northern and northeastern regions may see significant rainfall on Monday and Tuesday, while central, southern, eastern, and southeastern regions should be prepared for heavy or localized torrential rain by Wednesday.

As of the latest update, Typhoon Fung-wong remains a moderate typhoon. Forecasts suggest it may strengthen into a severe typhoon while passing the northern Philippines and entering the South China Sea. However, it is expected to weaken as it moves northward and is likely to approach Taiwan as a mild typhoon, with the highest probability of landfall in central Taiwan.

Chang also noted that the typhoon is expected to move away rapidly by Thursday, November 13, with conditions returning to the typical northeast monsoon pattern by Friday and Saturday, November 14–15.

The CWB plans to issue a maritime typhoon warning on Monday, November 10, followed by a possible land typhoon warning on Tuesday, November 11. Residents are advised that the timing and path of Typhoon Fung-wong remain subject to change and should continue monitoring official updates.

Recommendation: Residents in northern, northeastern, and central Taiwan should stay informed through official CWB announcements and take precautions against heavy rainfall, localized flooding, and strong winds.
