New Taipei City, Taiwan – November 8, 2025
A violent domestic incident occurred in Sanchong District, New Taipei City on the afternoon of November 6, resulting in the death of a woman and injuries to two others, all allegedly inflicted with a kitchen knife during a family dispute over property.
The suspect, a 60-year-old man surnamed Chen, reportedly attacked his siblings and his wife after a disagreement concerning their late mother’s NT$10 million savings account, which his sisters had placed in a trust without naming him as a beneficiary. Preliminary investigations indicate that Chen was dissatisfied with this decision, which triggered the confrontation.
Authorities confirmed that Chen fatally wounded his sister, injured another sister, and accidentally injured his wife. Police responded promptly after receiving an emergency report and arrested Chen at the scene as a criminal caught in the act. He immediately requested his lawyer’s presence during questioning.
Following initial questioning by police, Chen was transferred to the New Taipei District Prosecutors Office yesterday at noon to face charges of murder and assault.
During the investigation, prosecutors cited the severity of the alleged crimes, the possibility of Chen fleeing, interfering with witnesses, and committing further offenses. They requested his detention. Today, after a court hearing, the New Taipei District Court approved Chen’s detention and placed him in incommunicado custody, citing the serious nature of the case.
Authorities continue to investigate the circumstances surrounding the fatal family dispute.
