Keelung Motorcyclist Frightened by ‘Ghost’ in Tunnel Turns Out to Be Halloween Prank — October 26, 2025
A late-night encounter inside the Keelung Zhongshan Tunnel turned terrifying for a motorcyclist who believed he had seen a ghostly figure wandering along the roadside. The incident, which occurred at around 7 p.m. on October 26, 2025, left the man injured and unable to sleep. Police later discovered that the “ghost” was, in fact, a woman participating in a Halloween video shoot.
According to authorities, the motorcyclist, identified as Mr. Lai, was passing through the tunnel when he noticed a woman dressed in black with long, disheveled hair walking near the tunnel wall. A man nearby was filming her, creating an eerie atmosphere that frightened drivers.
Startled by the sight, Mr. Lai lost control of his motorcycle and fell on a downhill section of the road, sustaining minor injuries. “I thought I saw a ghost. I couldn’t sleep all night after that,” he told police, adding that the shock caused him mental distress.
Police immediately launched an investigation and identified three individuals involved in the stunt — a 23-year-old woman surnamed Yan, a man surnamed Li, and another companion. The group told officers that they were filming a Halloween promotional video and did not intend to frighten anyone. They have since apologized to Mr. Lai.
“I feel relieved now that it was a misunderstanding,” said Mr. Lai. “However, I hope that next time, people will issue proper warnings before filming in public areas.”
Although Mr. Lai chose not to file charges, the Keelung police fined the group for illegal parking inside the tunnel. Authorities also stated that if any behavior is found to cause public panic or pose a safety risk, those involved could face prosecution under the Social Order Maintenance Act.
