Ombudsman Jesus Crispin “Boying” Remulla revealed that he was diagnosed with leukemia following a quintuple bypass surgery he underwent in 2023. The disclosure came during an interview with journalist Luchi Cruz-Valdez, where Remulla spoke candidly about his health challenges while serving as the Secretary of Justice.

“In 2023, I was diagnosed with a heart condition that required bypass surgery. I had a quintuple bypass, and while recovering, I was diagnosed with cancer — leukemia, a cancer of the blood,” Remulla shared during the interview.

A quintuple bypass is a major heart surgery performed to restore proper blood flow when multiple arteries leading to the heart are blocked. Leukemia, on the other hand, is a serious condition characterized by the abnormal production of white blood cells.

Despite the health struggles, Remulla continued to fulfill his duties, later being appointed as Ombudsman. His revelation has drawn messages of support and encouragement from colleagues and the public, recognizing his resilience and dedication to public service amid personal trials.
