Taichung (October 25, 2025) – A tragic incident occurred in Daya District, Taichung, early yesterday morning when a 21-year-old Vietnamese migrant worker surnamed Li was fatally stabbed following a quarrel with a fellow worker. Authorities identified the suspect as Fan, a 32-year-old Vietnamese national and fellow villager of the victim, who fled the scene after the attack.

According to police reports, the altercation took place around 4 a.m. in a dormitory on Zhongqing Road. During the heated argument, Fan allegedly grabbed a fruit knife and stabbed Li in anger. Witnesses said the victim ran from the dormitory but collapsed a few steps away beside a parked car, where he succumbed to his injuries. Blood was found splattered across the ground near the site.

After committing the crime, Fan reportedly fled with the help of a Taiwanese man surnamed Chen, who drove him away from the scene. Fan later hid at the residence of another Vietnamese national, also surnamed Fan, in Dali District. A police task force tracked the suspects and arrested Fan and Chen in Taiping District around noon yesterday.

The Taichung District Prosecutor’s Office immediately launched an investigation. Prosecutor Cai Chenghan led the case and directed the Daya Branch to form a special task force to handle the incident. Following interrogation, authorities determined that Fan posed a flight risk and could potentially destroy evidence or coordinate with other individuals involved. The prosecution applied to the Taichung District Court for detention without contact.

Meanwhile, Chen and the other Vietnamese man suspected of helping Fan evade arrest were both charged with harboring a criminal. They were released on bail—Chen at NT$250,000 and the other Fan at NT$10,000.

Prosecutors and forensic experts have already examined the victim’s body, and an autopsy is scheduled to determine the exact cause of death. The investigation is ongoing as authorities continue to gather evidence and clarify the events leading up to the fatal dispute.
