A tragic workplace accident occurred this afternoon in Taiping District, Taichung City, when an 18-year-old construction worker fell from the second floor of a factory building under demolition. The victim, surnamed Chen, suffered severe head trauma and multiple injuries. Despite being rushed to the hospital, he was pronounced dead at 6:09 p.m. due to massive brain hemorrhage.

According to the Taichung City Fire Department, the incident happened at around 4:00 p.m. at an old factory site undergoing demolition. Witnesses reported hearing a loud crash before discovering Chen lying motionless on the ground. Emergency responders found him without breathing or a heartbeat and immediately performed CPR before transporting him to Taichung General Hospital.

Hospital staff confirmed that Chen sustained severe brain damage and multiple internal injuries. After emergency treatment efforts failed, he was declared deceased in the early evening.

Authorities are now investigating whether proper safety measures, such as guardrails and fall-prevention gear, were in place at the time of the accident. Both the police and the Labor Inspection Office have launched an inquiry to determine potential negligence or violations of occupational safety regulations.

The site manager and Chen’s family were notified and arrived at the hospital to assist with the ongoing investigation. Officials have emphasized that construction and demolition companies must strictly comply with workplace safety standards to prevent similar tragedies.
