A Filipina bound for Bahrain was arrested at the Ninoy Aquino International Airport (NAIA) Terminal 3 in Pasay City after authorities served a warrant of arrest for cyber libel, the Philippine National Police – Aviation Security Group (PNP-AVSEGROUP) reported on Sunday.

According to police, the woman was intercepted around 10:58 a.m. on October 18 at the Central Security Screening Checkpoint before she could board Gulf Air Flight GF155 bound for Bahrain.

The arrest was carried out in compliance with a warrant issued on May 27, 2024, by Branch 47 of the Regional Trial Court in Ormoc City, Leyte. The case was filed for violation of Section 4(c)(4) of Republic Act No. 10175, also known as the Cybercrime Prevention Act of 2012, which covers cyber libel offenses. The court set the bail at ₱48,000.

The operation was conducted jointly by personnel from the PNP-AVSEGROUP and the Criminal Investigation and Detection Group – Quezon City District Field Unit (CIDG-QCDFU).

Authorities confirmed that the arrested individual is an overseas Filipino worker (OFW) who was preparing to leave the country for employment in Bahrain. She is currently under the custody of the CIDG-QCDFU for documentation and further legal procedures.

Police officials reminded the public that all airport terminals are connected to a national law enforcement database, allowing authorities to intercept individuals with active warrants before departure.
