CHIAYI COUNTY, TAIWAN (October 18, 2025)— Authorities discovered the body of a newborn in Liujiao Township early this morning, believed to have been abandoned by an Indonesian caregiver shortly after giving birth.
The infant’s body was found wrapped in a towel and placed inside a sack, discarded beside a wall. Emergency responders, including police and firefighters, rushed to the scene, but the baby was already deceased and was not transported to a hospital. Prosecutors plan to conduct an autopsy to determine the cause of death.
The Indonesian migrant worker, employed as a caregiver, reportedly left the scene in a taxi and has since gone missing. Police are actively searching for her and are tracing her communications and movements to locate her whereabouts.
Neighbors described the caregiver as someone primarily responsible for taking care of the household’s grandfather and rarely interacted with others in the community. He was known to take occasional days off to visit friends in other counties. Neighbors also reported that the caregiver was thin, showing no signs of pregnancy, and had previously abused the elderly man in his care.
The baby was still connected to the umbilical cord, and authorities suspect that the infant was wrapped in a towel and placed in a feed bag before being abandoned. The bag was reportedly covered in blood when discovered.
Police have already taken the employer for questioning and are gathering statements as part of the investigation. Once the caregiver is located, authorities will clarify the circumstances of the case and proceed with the autopsy to confirm the cause of death.
The case has sparked concern over the treatment of both migrant workers and vulnerable infants, with authorities urging the public to come forward with any information regarding the caregiver’s location.
