October 17, 2025 — New Taipei City, Taiwan
A 33-year-old man disguised as a woman was arrested in Tamsui District, New Taipei City after a taxi fare dispute led to police discovering that he was a wanted fugitive who had been on the run for over six years, authorities confirmed.
According to police reports, the suspect, identified only by his surname Yang, boarded a taxi in Taipei’s Ximending district on Thursday night while intoxicated. He asked to be taken to Section 3, Danjin Road in Tamsui, a trip that cost around NT$700. Upon arrival, Yang told the driver he didn’t have enough money and requested to go upstairs to get cash. Fearing the passenger might flee, the driver refused and called the police for assistance.
When officers arrived, they encountered Yang dressed in a short dress, black stockings, and long hair, and initially believed they were dealing with a woman. However, during the identity verification process, Yang presented a fake ID and repeatedly shouted incoherent remarks, reportedly saying, “My boobs are falling out!” while attempting to contact friends for money.
After nearly 40 minutes of confusion and failed attempts to settle the fare, police escorted Yang to the station for further questioning. A fingerprint check later confirmed his true identity as a male suspect wanted for multiple offenses, including drunk driving and fraud.
Investigators said Yang admitted that he had been living and working in Taipei as a hostess, frequently cross-dressing to conceal his identity. He also claimed to be struggling financially, which may have contributed to his ongoing criminal activities.
Yang was taken into custody and has been charged with fraud and identity deception. Authorities stated that the case will be forwarded to the New Taipei District Prosecutors Office for further investigation.
Police reminded the public that impersonation and the use of false identification documents are serious offenses and encouraged citizens to cooperate with law enforcement to ensure safety and accountability.
