A man surnamed Zeng, who had been wanted in connection with a money laundering case, was arrested in Taichung City on Sunday, October 12, 2025, after a failed attempt to flee from police resulted in a traffic collision.

According to the Taichung City Police Department’s Sixth Precinct, Officer Chen Yichen of the Xitun Police Station was conducting a routine patrol near the intersection of Taiwan Boulevard Section 3 and Liming Road when he observed the 33-year-old Zeng riding a motorcycle with his helmet strap unfastened. The officer signaled for him to stop for inspection.

Instead of complying, Zeng reportedly panicked and accelerated to escape. In his haste, he lost control of the motorcycle and collided with an oncoming vehicle. The impact caused both Zeng and his motorcycle to fall to the ground, scattering his belongings — including a cup of milk tea he had just purchased — across the road.

Officer Chen acted swiftly, restraining Zeng at the scene. Witnesses described the officer’s quick response as “decisive and professional,” with some comparing the dramatic arrest to a movie scene.

Zeng, visibly shaken, repeatedly shouted apologies as bystanders gathered to watch. Following verification, authorities confirmed that Zeng had been wanted by the Taichung District Prosecutors Office for three months for his involvement in a money laundering case.

Police stated that Zeng was immediately taken into custody and now faces additional charges related to reckless driving and property damage resulting from the crash.

The Taichung City Police Department reminded the public that cooperation during police inspections is essential for public safety and that attempting to flee only leads to more serious consequences.
