Taipei, October 13, 2025 – The Central Weather Agency (CWA) has forecasted hot weather across the country from Tuesday to Friday, with a slight cooling trend expected by Sunday, October 19. Forecasters are also monitoring a tropical system in the northwest Pacific, which could intensify into a tropical depression by midweek and develop into a typhoon by Saturday.
Liu Peiteng, a CWA meteorologist, said temperatures will remain high from Tuesday through Friday, reaching 33 to 35 degrees Celsius in western Taiwan. Afternoon thunderstorms may occur in mountainous regions, while localized rainfall is possible in Hualien, Taitung, and areas south of Chiayi on Tuesday.
“Northeasterly winds on Saturday will bring moisture, resulting in isolated showers along the north coast near Keelung, in the mountains of Greater Taipei, and in eastern Taiwan,” Liu noted. He added that rainfall will become more widespread by Sunday due to the combined effects of the northeast monsoon and the outer circulation of the tropical system. Areas likely to experience rain include northern Taiwan, eastern regions, and pockets of Hsinchu and Miaoli.
The northeast monsoon is expected to persist into Monday, contributing to increased moisture and occasional rain in central and southern Taiwan. Temperatures are also forecasted to drop noticeably. Northern Taiwan will see highs decrease to 31–32 degrees Celsius, down from 33–35 degrees in previous days. Central and southern regions are expected to experience a slight drop of 1–2 degrees, with Monday morning and evening temperatures ranging from 22 to 23 degrees Celsius.
Regarding the tropical system, Liu cautioned that its future path remains uncertain. Current projections indicate it may develop into a tropical depression by Wednesday or Thursday and intensify into a typhoon by Saturday. Authorities continue to monitor its trajectory closely.
Residents are advised to stay updated on weather conditions and prepare for possible rain and cooler temperatures toward the weekend.
