October 13, 2025 — Batangas, Philippines

The Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (PHIVOLCS) reported a minor phreatic eruption at the summit crater of Taal Volcano at 11:42 AM today, October 13, 2025.

According to PHIVOLCS, time-lapse footage from the Main Crater IP Camera captured the brief steam-driven explosion, which produced plumes reaching approximately 900 meters above the crater. The eruption was caused by the interaction of groundwater with hot volcanic gases beneath the surface.

Despite the activity, Alert Level 1 remains in effect over Taal Volcano, indicating that it is still in an abnormal condition and that sudden steam-driven explosions, volcanic earthquakes, and minor ashfall may occur.

PHIVOLCS reminded the public that entry into Taal Volcano Island (Permanent Danger Zone) is strictly prohibited, particularly near the Main Crater and Daang Kastila fissure, due to the possibility of sudden steam or gas-driven explosions.

Communities surrounding Taal Lake are also advised to remain vigilant and to monitor official advisories from PHIVOLCS and local authorities.

The agency continues to monitor the volcano closely and assures the public that it will issue updates should new activity occur.
