MANILA (October 11, 2025)— House Speaker Faustino “Bojie” Dy has confirmed that he sought assistance from the Department of Justice (DOJ) to cancel the passport of former Ako Bicol Party-list Representative Zaldy Co, who recently resigned amid investigations into alleged corruption involving flood control projects.
According to Speaker Dy, he immediately contacted then-Justice Secretary Jesus Crispin Remulla—now serving as Ombudsman—after Co’s resignation on September 29 to request prompt action aimed at restricting Co’s travel abroad.
Dy clarified that while the DOJ does not have direct authority to revoke a passport, his office sought the department’s assistance because it oversees the Bureau of Immigration, which could help speed up coordination with the concerned agencies.
Remulla reportedly assured Dy that the DOJ would take swift and appropriate measures in response to the request.
The House Speaker also revealed that the DOJ has since asked the Department of Foreign Affairs (DFA) to initiate the process of canceling Co’s passport to ensure he remains within the country while investigations continue.
Co’s resignation came as he faced mounting scrutiny over his alleged involvement in irregularities linked to government-funded flood control projects. The ongoing investigation seeks to determine the extent of his participation in the supposed corruption scheme.
