MANILA, Philippines —Akbayan Representative Perci Cendaña has commented on the appointment of Department of Justice (DOJ) Secretary Jesus Crispin “Boying” Remulla as the new Ombudsman, describing the position as one with “very small shoes to fill and a very low bar to clear.”

Cendaña criticized the previous Ombudsman for being a barrier to transparency and accountability in government, stressing the challenges that Remulla is expected to face. “The incoming Ombudsman will have very small shoes to fill and a very low bar to clear. The previous Ombudsman became a barrier to transparency and accountability of public officials,” he said.

He also called on Remulla to take immediate action in enhancing government transparency and fighting corruption. “I urge the new Ombudsman to immediately make the SALNs of government officials accessible to the public, and begin the process of filing criminal cases against those involved in the massive flood control corruption,” Cendaña said.

The lawmaker’s statement highlights the ongoing demand for accountability, stronger oversight, and decisive action against corruption in public office.
