Kaohsiung City, Taiwan (October 7, 2025)— A tragic workplace accident occurred around 1:00 p.m. today at a factory on Yongguang Street in Xiaogang District, resulting in the death of one worker and injury to another.
Authorities identified the fatality as a 38-year-old woman surnamed Ye, who was crushed by a steel structure and showed no signs of life when rescuers arrived. A 54-year-old male worker, Wen, sustained a severe leg fracture and was rushed to a nearby hospital for emergency treatment.
Initial reports indicated that only one person had been injured when the fire department received the call. However, upon arriving at the scene, rescue teams discovered that one worker had already died due to the impact of the falling steel structure.
Preliminary investigations suggest that the accident occurred when an overhead crane was lifting a steel frame, which then collapsed and struck the two workers.
The police and labor inspection authorities have launched a joint investigation to determine the cause of the incident and assess possible safety violations.
Officials reminded companies to strictly follow workplace safety protocols, particularly in construction and heavy machinery operations, to prevent similar tragedies in the future.
