Tainan, Taiwan — October 6, 2025
A 29-year-old man, identified only by his surname Su, was struck and killed by a southbound Ziqiang express train No. 121 at Houbi Railway Station in Tainan on Friday afternoon, October 3, after reportedly falling from the platform.
According to witnesses, the incident occurred at around 2:50 p.m. when the man suddenly fell onto the tracks just as the train was entering the station. The train operator was unable to brake in time, and Su was hit and killed instantly. The impact was so severe that his remains were found scattered along the track within the station area.
The Tainan City Fire Department received an emergency call reporting a possible derailment. Upon arrival, rescuers confirmed the man’s death and cleared the scene. No passengers on the train were injured.
Train operations between Xinying and Houbi were temporarily suspended, with only one track being used for two-way traffic, resulting in service delays.
Authorities from the Xinying Railway Police Station have launched an investigation to determine whether the fall was accidental or intentional.
The Taiwan Railways Administration (TRA) extended condolences to the victim’s family and assured the public that full safety inspections would be conducted before resuming normal operations.
