KAOHSIUNG, October 6, 2025 — A fire broke out at the Formosa Plastics Corporation’s Linyuan Polypropylene Plant in Kaohsiung City’s Linyuan District late Sunday evening, prompting an immediate emergency response from both the company’s in-house team and city firefighters.
According to the Kaohsiung City Fire Department, the blaze occurred at around 9:24 p.m. on October 5 at the plant located on Shihua 1st Road. Firefighters quickly dispatched eight fire trucks and 19 personnel to the site after receiving the report.
Preliminary investigations suggest that the fire was triggered by a motor malfunction, which caused a heptane pipeline to leak and ignite. Fortunately, the plant’s internal firefighting team responded swiftly, deploying a fire truck turret to extinguish the flames before they could spread.
Authorities confirmed that no one was injured or trapped during the incident. The fire was fully contained shortly after it began, preventing further damage to surrounding facilities.
The Environmental Protection Bureau has been notified and has begun monitoring the air quality around the area to detect any potential pollution caused by the incident. Meanwhile, the exact cause of the motor failure and subsequent fire remains under investigation by relevant authorities.
Local officials commended the quick response of the plant’s emergency team, noting that their actions helped avert a potentially serious industrial accident. Formosa Plastics has pledged to cooperate fully with investigators to prevent similar incidents in the future.
