KAOHSIUNG, October 6, 2025 — A fire broke out shortly after midnight in a residential building on Sanduo 4th Road in Kaohsiung City’s Lingya District, prompting a large-scale emergency response. Three residents were taken to the hospital, though all were reported to be conscious and without serious injuries.

The Kaohsiung City Fire Department received the emergency call at 12:46 a.m. and quickly dispatched 14 fire vehicles and 29 firefighters to the scene. Upon arrival, responders found heavy smoke billowing from the fifth floor of the building. Fire crews worked swiftly to evacuate residents and contain the flames, successfully extinguishing the fire by 1:13 a.m.

A total of five people were rescued from the scene. Among them was a 56-year-old man who suffered mild smoke inhalation and was treated by paramedics before being transported to the hospital for further care. Two other residents, a man and a woman, were also taken to the hospital as a precautionary measure, despite showing no visible injuries.

According to police and fire officials, the resident who first reported the fire managed to escape independently, sustaining only minor smoke inhalation. Initial assessments have ruled out arson, with investigators suspecting that the fire may have started due to unattended cooking or a similar domestic accident.

Authorities have launched a detailed investigation to determine the exact cause of the blaze. The fire department reminded the public to remain vigilant when cooking at night and to ensure that kitchen appliances are turned off before leaving the area.

The incident caused brief panic among residents in the area, but thanks to the rapid response of emergency personnel, the fire was brought under control quickly, preventing it from spreading to neighboring units.
