TAIPEI, Taiwan (October 5, 2025)— A short video showing a junior high school girl being assaulted by five of her peers in a building in Ximending has recently circulated online, sparking public outrage and renewed concerns about teenage bullying.

The 15-second clip depicts the victim being repeatedly struck, causing her nose to bleed and leaving her on the ground helpless. Taipei City police have confirmed that the attackers have been identified and will be interviewed individually as part of the ongoing investigation.

Authorities are withholding further details due to the involvement of minors, stating only that the case is being processed according to the law. Both the victim and the assailants are junior high school students from different schools in New Taipei City, and they occasionally meet in the Ximending area.

According to reports, the incident occurred at the end of last month. The victim was lured to a stairwell by friends and subsequently attacked. One girl kicked the victim in the nose, while two others pulled her hair and slammed her head against the wall. A bystander filmed the incident, reportedly cautioning others not to target the victim’s head to avoid a concussion.

The video quickly went viral online, prompting widespread discussion among netizens, who condemned the bullying and criticized perceived shortcomings in Taiwan’s education system regarding youth behavior.

The victim’s family sought medical attention immediately after discovering the injuries and filed a police complaint. Some of the perpetrators reportedly deactivated their online accounts in an attempt to evade scrutiny. However, authorities reviewed surveillance footage, successfully identified the individuals involved, and have issued notices for police interviews.

The Taipei police emphasized that cases involving juvenile offenders are handled with care, balancing public interest with legal protections for minors, and urged parents and schools to remain vigilant against bullying.
