NEW TAIPEI CITY (October 5, 2025)— What began as a festive Mid-Autumn barbecue in Xinzhuang District ended in violence last night after a noise dispute escalated into a stabbing incident.

According to Xinzhuang Police, a 19-year-old man surnamed Xu became enraged by the loud singing of a 48-year-old man surnamed Chen during a community celebration held at a neighborhood building on Xinbei Avenue Section 7. The confrontation quickly spiraled out of control, and Xu allegedly attacked Chen with a small machete.

The incident occurred at around 9:00 p.m., prompting alarmed residents to call the police. When officers arrived, they found that Xu had already been subdued by community members. Police confiscated the weapon and arrested Xu on the spot.

Investigations revealed that Xu and Chen, who both live in the same community, had argued over the noise level of Chen’s singing. During the altercation, Xu reportedly drew a machete he had concealed and stabbed Chen in the arm and abdomen, inflicting 3-centimeter and 6-centimeter wounds respectively.

Chen was immediately rushed to Fu Jen Catholic University Hospital, where doctors confirmed his condition as stable and not life-threatening.

Police later escorted Xu to the station for questioning. Following interrogation, Xu was transferred to the New Taipei District Prosecutor’s Office on suspicion of attempted murder, with prosecutors requesting preventive detention to prevent further offenses.

Authorities urged the public to resolve disputes peacefully and reminded citizens that violence will not be tolerated, even amid celebratory gatherings.
