An ongoing flood control project in Barangays Biga 1 and Sabutan, Silang, Cavite, collapsed on Thursday afternoon, October 2, at around 12:30 p.m., following continuous heavy rainfall brought by Typhoon Paolo.
Aerial footage circulating online shows the extent of the collapse, with large portions of the riverbank structure caving in. The incident has sparked concerns among residents and netizens regarding the quality and safety of the construction.
According to the video uploader, the collapsed section of the flood control structure appeared thin and poorly constructed, raising suspicions that substandard materials or workmanship may have contributed to the failure. Locals noted that the collapse occurred after hours of nonstop rain, which saturated the soil and weakened the structure’s foundation.
Authorities in Silang are now assessing the damage and investigating whether the project met safety and engineering standards. The Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) is expected to conduct an inspection to determine the cause of the collapse and evaluate the stability of the remaining structures in the area.
Fortunately, no injuries or casualties were reported in the incident. However, nearby residents expressed concern about potential flooding, especially with more rain expected in the coming days due to Typhoon Paolo’s lingering effects.
