A Taipei man surnamed Huang was sentenced to one year in prison by the Shilin District Court for indecent assault after taking advantage of a woman’s intoxicated state at his girlfriend’s rental apartment.

According to court records, the victim, identified by the pseudonym Xiaoman, attended a charity concert in Datong District with Huang, his girlfriend, and a male friend in August 2024. After the concert, Huang invited the group to his girlfriend’s apartment, where Xiaoman and the others consumed a significant amount of alcohol.

Xiaoman reported that while she was asleep on the floor beside the bed, Huang touched her inappropriately, including slipping his hands inside her bra and underwear and kissing her. Startled, she immediately recorded the incident on her phone and confronted Huang, asking, “Did you touch me?” and “Why is my bra undone?”

Huang reportedly pleaded with Xiaoman not to report the incident, repeatedly apologizing and even kneeling before her. Despite his attempts to dissuade her, Xiaoman filed a police report and underwent a forensic examination. Investigators later confirmed Huang’s DNA on her underwear, pants, and lips.

During the trial, Huang denied wrongdoing, claiming that the touching was consensual and that Xiaoman had initiated contact. However, the court reviewed the video evidence and forensic findings and determined that Huang acted solely to satisfy his own desires, causing both physical and psychological harm to Xiaoman.

“The defendant exploited the victim’s inebriated state to commit indecent acts,” the court stated. “He denied responsibility afterward and did not attempt to reconcile with the victim.”

Huang was convicted of indecent assault, a crime carrying a minimum sentence of six months, and sentenced to one year in prison.
