KEELUNG — A Keelung-registered fishing vessel, Jinyuman, was engulfed in flames early Thursday morning (Oct. 3) near the waters off Waimushan Haixing Swimming Pool. All seven crew members, including the captain, managed to escape by jumping into the sea and were later rescued by a nearby fishing boat.

According to the Keelung City Fire Department, the alarm was raised at around 6:30 a.m. Crews from the Zhongshan Detachment, Anle Detachment, and the Second Brigade were dispatched to respond to the emergency.

The Coast Guard Administration’s Keelung unit arrived at the scene shortly before 7 a.m. By that time, the crew had already been taken to safety, while firefighters and coast guard personnel worked together to douse the blaze with water jets.

The Second Patrol District confirmed that the vessel involved was the Jinyuman, a 38.86-ton fishing boat. Officials said no injuries were reported, as all seven crew members had abandoned ship in time.

The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
