The Taipei City Labor Bureau has issued a reminder to employers, stressing that foreign domestic caregivers are strictly hired to provide care services—not to perform unrelated chores or errands.

Authorities cautioned that assigning tasks outside their caregiving duties could be considered a violation of the Employment Services Act. Offending employers face penalties ranging from NT$30,000 to NT$150,000.

The bureau emphasized that foreign caregivers should not be treated as handymen or household helpers for non-caregiving work. Employers found violating these rules may also risk losing their recruitment and employment permits. Once revoked, they would no longer be allowed to hire foreign workers in the future.

Officials urged families to respect the defined scope of caregivers’ responsibilities, noting that violations not only break the law but also harm the welfare and dignity of foreign workers.
