Reports of overheating, explosions, and spontaneous combustion involving portable chargers have raised safety concerns among the public. In response, the Bureau of Standards, Metrology and Inspection (BSMI) under the Ministry of Economic Affairs (MOEA) has announced a large-scale recall of five specific power bank models, totaling close to 90,000 units in Taiwan.

The affected brands and models include:

  • Anker (Model A1257): 5,439 units recalled.

  • Asia Fruit Elements (Models GRAVITY CS5 / CS10, serial numbers A/B/BA/BB): 8,500 units of CS5 and 22,000 units of CS10.

  • Lenovo (Model PBLG2W, product number 40ALLG2WWW): 53 units.

  • Energizer (Model UE10013CQ): 2,004 units.

  • Mypower (Model MP-10050): 50,000 units.

Consumers are urged to check the back or side of their devices for the model number or compare them with the reference images released by the BSMI.

Officials emphasized that owners of the listed models should stop using them immediately and contact the brand’s customer service centers for replacement or further instructions. Since power banks require special handling during disposal, the bureau also reminded the public not to throw them away with household waste to prevent accidents.

Beyond the five models named by the BSMI, other brands have also initiated voluntary recalls, including Xiaomi’s 20,000mAh 33W Power Bank (Model PB2030MI) and Mozi’s Universal Charger Pro 5-in-1 Power Bank.

Authorities reiterated the importance of consumer vigilance when using portable chargers, especially given their widespread use in daily life. The BSMI continues to monitor the safety compliance of power banks sold in Taiwan to reduce risks of fire and injury.
